Resin flooring at home: light, substrate and mistakes that break continuity
Resin promises continuity, yet its beauty does not come from the absence of joints: it begins with the invisible quality of what lies beneath.

A resin floor appears quiet. It does not interrupt the step with a grid of grout lines, allowing walls, furniture and light to breathe within one field. Yet that calm is demanding: movement below, grazing reflections and late junction details can all return to the surface. Designing it means listening to what cannot be seen.
The substrate is the real floor
Resin does not erase cracks, moisture or movement; it inherits them. Diagnosis, flatness, cohesion, joints and compatibility come before colour.
Grazing light is unforgiving
Low windows and floor-level lights reveal waves hidden by diffuse light. Samples belong in the real room, by day and at night.
Continuous colour is not flat colour
Grey, sand and ivory change beside timber, metal and walls. A generous sample reveals undertones and hand-applied variation.
Joints and thresholds
Continuity does not justify ignoring necessary joints. Coordinate them with doors, rooms, structure and installation sequences.
Resin, microcement and porcelain differ
They share a seamless image but differ in thickness, system, substrate, maintenance and installation control. Compare them by use, not appearance alone.
Daily life and maintenance
Choose for shoes, pets, chairs, water and cleaning. Gloss, texture and topcoat affect marks and perceived grip; the system data sheet matters.
Mini-case: an open-plan room
Resin can unite entrance, kitchen and living room when skirtings, cabinetry, doors and final levels are coordinated before work begins.
Checklist before quotation
Collect plans, area, photos, known build-up, cracks, moisture, underfloor heating, door levels and room use. Clarify preparation, layers, protection and maintenance.
